In 1992 1-800-DENT-DOC was established as a referral network for the benefit of reputable body repair shops in the greater Los Angeles area. Several members of the Southern California Auto Body Association introduced the concept of utilizing the new, innovative Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) process.

 

Body repair shops in the southern California area were approached to handle a customer base that had specifically been targeted by the PDR marketing program through various avenues such as radio and television.

 

When 1-800-DENT-DOC started marketing the idea of performing minor repairs, while maintaining the integrity of the factory or custom paint finish, in a fraction of the time and at one-third of the cost associated with conventional body shop repair work, the response was phenomenal.

The concept had great market appeal. The once dormant section of the body shop repair market (level 1 – cosmetic damage) was revived. When the general public learned that minor dings, dents, and creases could be repaired without the need for costly body fillers, sanding, and painting typically used by traditional body shops, in hours rather than days, and at a fraction of the cost, two things occurred.

 

First, a new profit center was created in the conventional body repair shop industry. Secondly, individuals who had been reluctant to pay the expense and endure the inconvenience of having their damaged vehicles repaired at traditional body repair shops started responding.

 

Their rationale for never having sought repair work in the past ranged from “the damage is probably within my insurance carrier’s deductible range” to “the damage has no direct impact on the drivability of my vehicle.” In any event, it became obvious that the new PDR process was the ideal solution, and it served as an outstanding marketing tool as well.

 

The process not only sparked interest, it tapped a new, undiscovered segment of the marketplace. Potential customers who had never considered having their vehicles repaired started visiting local body repair shops and inquiring about the new time and money saving technology.

 

This process which provides virtually undetectable repairs to the non-collision minor damages vehicles experience daily has achieved wide acceptance. Over time, 1-800-DENT-DOC has expanded its available services to include collision and mobile paint and bumper repair as well.

 

More recently, 1-800-DENT-DOC has systematically been adding complementary services to its offerings. Our PDR, mobile paint and bumper repair, and collision center associates all strive to work together for the overall benefit of the automotive reconditioning industry.
